Director of Content Software Engineering is responsible for Virtual Learning content creation and publication services and reports to the Vice President of Platform Management.

This role includes support for content publication, content/lesson delivery to students

and schools and assessment (test) delivery, submission, and grading on an ongoing basis.

New development and maintenance activity are included.

This role also includes providing support for the ongoing efforts to modernize and migrate from legacy content tools to the Pearson Authoring Framework (PAF).

The organization consists of multiple teams currently organized into three Centers of Excellence.

The role requires that these teams be kept to the size and structure needed based on longer term plans made by Virtual Learning Product Leadership as well as direction set by Content Programme leadership VP.

The Director coordinates daily and weekly with 3 Engineering leads and has one direct Full Time Employee in that group.

The Director is also responsible for assisting in coordination with Content Programme Solution Managers and Product Owners, Technical Project Managers for the Content Programme and also Virtual Learning Solution Managers who set online learning product direction.

The Director or designees are also expected to sustain alignment with Virtual Learning Engineering and Architecture for those elements of the portfolio that belong to the Virtual Learning platform.

10-15 years experience managing multiple teams working on varied and changing portfolio of technical challenges.

Management Skills:

Proactive Communication

Proven ability to work in a complex environment overlapping with multiple organizations working at the senior product

management level and also with senior leaders as needed.

Proven ability to lead onshore FTE and offshore contract resources.

Proven ability to compartmentalize topics and switch among those topics rapidly and regularly.

Background with either or both Azure Dev Ops (ADO) and Confluence.

Ability to delegate extensively but monitor outcome of delegated work.

Ability to facilitate technical planning when needed.

Technical Skills:

Understanding of content/curriculum creation and delivery.

Understanding of Learning Management Systems

Understanding of SaaS and PaaS architectures, preferably experience in both AWS and Azure cloud based technologies.

Understanding of cloud based software development and quality assurance.
