Associate Chief Nursing Officer – ACNO

This is a Full-time position in Baltimore, MD posted June 7, 2021.

Position Summary: Works under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer to assist in creating an environment where nurses deliver highly reliable care.

With the CNO and other members of the senior management team, assists in directing the administration and advancement of patient care services.

Has accountability for Intermediate and Acute Care Services, and divisional responsibility for PCS Informatics, patient experience management and patient flow.

Prioritizes efforts to sustain an elevated patient experience.

Utilizes emerging trends, issues, technology, and an understanding of the organization’s vision, mission, and goals to direct the strategic planning, organization, leadership, service delivery, performance improvement, and evaluation of nursing/clinical standards of performance.

Responsibilities: Serves as a member of the executive leadership team participating in strategic planning, goal development, implementation and evaluation of overall clinical and operational effectiveness.

Serves as the chief advisor and spokesperson for the Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer taking call for the Division in the absence of the CNO.

Represents Patient Care Services and the organization with various external agencies, bodies, professional and local groups, always exhibiting the highest level of professionalism and representing the best interests of the organization.

Provides oversight and coordination of off-shift hospital operations through the hospital operations coordinators.

Coordinates and integrates activities of Patient Care Services with other departments to ensure overall optimization of service delivery for the entire hospital.

Oversees development and maintenance of the division databases and automated systems necessary to support efficient operations and staffing; and to capture trends in resource utilization, patient outcomes, staff competency, general division operations, etc; analyzes data to assist the Vice President and other Directors in managing the effective delivery of patient care.

Actively participates in divisional and organizational committees and meetings, representing the interests of Patient Care Services, nursing, and the organization as a whole.

Develops, monitors, analyzes and employs strategies to improve divisional outcomes and to promote high reliability and accountability in clinical practice.

Ensures performance improvement indicators are outcome-oriented and evidence-based, with the necessary changes in practice implemented based on results.

Partners with physician leaders and provides leadership to achieve high reliability care delivery processes.

Integrates system-wide outcomes and quality data into the framework of clinical effectiveness to elevate patient care delivery and promote patient safety.

Guides the planning, implementation and evaluation of new services, programs and special projects.

Oversees the operations of assigned departments/services and pursues opportunities for alignment and improvement.

Introduces strategies and drives the implementation of best practices to enhance the patient experience.

Provides leadership and direction for the development of strategies to promote effective recruitment, engagement, retention, and recognition of staff.

Promotes strategies to optimize patient flow management.
Develops collegial relationships with medical faculty and private attending physicians.

Ensures compliance with all applicable standards from licensing, accrediting, certifying, and regulating bodies.

Builds positive relationships with patients, families, co-workers, and the community through cooperation and collaboration to promote a healthy work environment.

Communicates effectively with all levels of the organization to advance the Divisional and/or organizational strategies.

Acts as a liaison between various departments and programs through participation in intra/interdepartmental meetings and workgroups.

Ensures that information is communicated in the proper forum to all in need of the content.

Establishes and uses appropriate communication channels to promote shared decision making and staff empowerment.

Generates and communicates proposals and/or written and verbal reports regarding key strategic projects and initiatives to stakeholders.

Develops financial projections; prepares, analyzes, and manages budgets to ensure optimum financial performance of assigned departments or service areas.

Recommends and/or develops business plans for proposed and existing programs in collaboration with others.

Continuously manages departmental or program performance against fiscal or business plan.

Utilizes productivity tools and in-depth analyses to ensure efficient operations.

Seasoned professional knowledge; equivalent to a Master’s degree; knowledge in more than one discipline BSN as well as a Master’s degree in Nursing, Business or a Health related field required.

DNP/PhD Preferred.

5+ years of progressive senior leadership experience
